Moore Ave. Homes Evacuated After Explosion Threat

Man's threat to blow up house and gas odor lead to emergency response

Homes adjacent to a residence at 23 Moore Ave. were evacuated on Wednesday evening after a man reportedly threatened to blow up the house.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard of the New London Police Department said the man's roommate told police the man had been acting strange during the day before making the threat. The roommate said there was an odor of natural gas inside the building.

Reichard said police made contact with the man and eventually persuaded him to leave the residence. He was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Reichard said an oil tank in the basement was leaking and there were diesel fumes in the building.
