Mom, Child Struck by Driver Trying to Catch Fishers Island Ferry: Police

The two pedestrians sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to New London police.

New London Police and Fire Departments were sent to the Fishers Island Ferry slip on a report of a pedestrian struck by a car, at approximately 11:35 a.m. Friday, July 18.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found a mother and two-year-old child struck by a vehicle. The driver was trying to catch the 11:30 a.m. ferry.

Both mother and child were transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Several witnesses on scene reported the vehicle was speeding through the parking lot trying to catch the 11:30 ferry when the accident occurred, according to police.

The operator, Sherief Ayoub of 16801 North Ninety Forth St., Scottsdale Ariz., was charged with reckless driving and is being held on bond.
