NLPD arrests two on DUI charges; State Police issue over 2,000 speeding tickets

It was a quiet Memorial Day weekend for the , according to statistics compiled for the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association.

Between noon on Friday and midnight on Monday, police in New London made 81 traffic stops and responded to 11 car accidents. There were no fatalities.

Police made two arrests charging driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Mike J. McClure, of 36 Black Point Road in Niantic, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Briggs Street and Vauxhall Street. Ricardo Delvillar-Costello was arrested at 1:52 a.m. on Saturday on Colman Street.

The Connecticut State Police statistics were recorded from midnight on Friday to midnight on Monday. They reported that State Police responded to 260 accidents, 11 of which had injuries, and said that four people were killed during the holiday weekend.

State Police also put additional troopers on the road, targeted intoxicated or aggressive drivers, and set up sobriety checkpoints. Across the state, they made 70 DUI arrests and issued 2,013 speeding tickets, as well as 978 tickets for seat belt violations.
