Man's Condition Improves After New London Scooter Accident

A 22-year-old man is recovering after he was critically injured in a Friday accident in downtown New London.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said James Pittman, whose last address is unknown, has been moved from the intensive care unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital to a standard room under general patient care. Pittman was taken to the hospital after an accident at 1:05 a.m. on Friday.

Reichard previously said that Pittman swerved his scooter for an unknown reason and struck a curb at Green Street, causing him to crash. Pittman was found unconscious at the scene and taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. He was moved to the trauma center at Yale-New Haven Hospital due to the severity of internal injuries.

The scooter was impounded after the accident.
