Man Robbed While Attempting To Trade Television For Cocaine

New London Police Department arrests two after they try to steal from man carrying flat-screen along Williams Street

The New London Police Department arrested a man and woman on Wednesday morning after they allegedly robbed a man who was carrying a television along the street in hopes of exchanging it for cocaine.

Police arrested Sekiyo Frett, 26, of 27 Dell Ave. and Siandre Jenkins, 34, of 66 Boswell Ave. in Norwich, on charges of second-degree robbery and second-degree larceny. Both are accused of attempting to steal a large flat-screen television from the man, who was walking in the area of 400 Williams Street at about 2:41 a.m. when the incident occurred.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said police received a call from a witness who said he saw Frett and Jenkins trying to take the television. Reichard said the duo tried to avoid the witness and had abandoned their car on Gorton Court, a dead-end road, when police arrived. Officers found them hiding nearby.

The man said he was looking to trade the television for crack cocaine when Frett and Jenkins pulled up in their car and stole it from him. Reichard said he identified Frett and Jenkins as his assailants and also confirmed that the television found at the scene was the one he had been carrying. Reichard said the television was taken into evidence by police.
