Man Charged With Making Bomb Threat To New London Courthouse

A 22-year-old man was charged with making a bomb threat to the G.A. 10 Court in New London on Monday morning, shortly before he was to appear in another court on a violation of probation charge.

According to the Connecticut State Police Troop E, the court received a call at about 9:30 a.m. to say that an explosive device would be brought into the building. The building was evacuated and secured, and the investigation was turned over to the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad.

Investigators determined that the call was made by Kahlil Y. Soria, of 15 West Coit Street. Soria was arrested at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and charged with second-degree harassment, threatening, and breach of peace.

According to state records, Soria was convicted of second-degree robbery in 2010 and sentenced to four years in prison, suspended after 18 months, with three years of probation. He was scheduled to appear in the New London Superior Court at 10 a.m. on Monday morning on a first-degree violation of probation charge.

The violation of probation charge was settled on Monday morning when Judge Arthur C. Hadden ordered Soria to serve 30 months in prison, suspended after nine months, with three years of probation.

The G.A. 10's full title is the State of Connecticut Superior Court Geographical Area 10. It is located on Broad Street and handles misdemeanors and other more minor crimes, while the Superior Court on Huntington Street handles felony cases.

Correction: the original story said Soria was scheduled to appear in the G.A. 10 Court. He appeared in the New London Superior Court.
