Man Attempts To Pawn Bicycle Stolen From New London Fire Department
Waterford Police officers, who happened to be at Yankee Peddler and Pawn shop in New London at the time of the transaction, couldn't help but notice the bike clearly belonged to the New London Fire Department.
Charles Manzlak, 31, of 19 Jay Street, New London, was charged with Larceny in the Fourth Degree after he attempted to pawn a City of New London Fire Department Mountain Bike at the Yankee Peddler and Pawn, State Street, New London, on October 1.
Two Waterford Police officers, who happened to be at the pawn shop on an unrelated matter, brought the unusual incident to the attention of the New London Police and Fire Departments. Manzlak stated that he had a relative who was a firefighter and that he bought the bike during a charity event. He further added that he had seven more bicycles just like it.
The bicycle, which was totally marked up with City of New London Fire Department markings and identifiers, was stolen from a holding shed located behind the Fire Headquarters. All bicycles have since been moved.
Manzlak was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond with a court date of October 15, 2013.
