Man Arrested On Illegal Firearms Charge

New London Police observe man discard weapon while responding to report of domestic incident

A 20-year-old man was arrested today after allegedly trying to dispose of a loaded handgun while fleeing from police.

Troy Johnson, 20, was charged with interfering with police, criminal attempt to commit assault on a police officer, illegal possession of a firearm without a permit, and illegal possession of marijuana. Johnson is being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said officers with the New London Police Department were investigating a report of a domestic dispute at 11:38 a.m. in the 300 block of Ocean Ave. Reichard said Johnson matched the description of the man involved in the domestic situation, although it was later determined that he was not involved in that incident.

Reichard said Johnson fled when officers approached him and was apprehended after a short foot chase. Officers saw him throw a handgun into the bushes behind a home during the chase and subsequently recovered a loaded .38-caliber revolver. Johnson was also found to have a small amount of marijuana on him.

Although the State of Conecticut has some of the finast offers in the country I am partial to New London. Dustin and all NLPD officers do a tremendous job fighting crime and ridding the streets of these gun carrying thugs that plague society.
Thanks guys and gals of NLPD Les Smith Jr. retired NLPD

Does he live in the condo at the Harbor House? Does he rent it out? Is the house in Mansfield aRead More rental property? Does he think that just because he has a property in New London and may not truly reside in it, that he is a New London resident. I would be interested in hearing his spin on this.

You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people when they haveRead More Kathleen Mitchell looking out for them. This is just sickening how with all the evidence that Kathleen has provided that Jeff Smith is not suspended as of today. The arrogance of this entire administration is beyond belief. I want to know what the Mayor has to say about this and I also would like to hear from Macrino, Hyslop and Passero.
