Man Arrested On Drug Charges After Brief Chase

Police take man into custody after investigating drug sale at library

A 22-year-old man was arrested on multiple drug charges on Friday afternoon after a short pursuit.

Reginald E. Green, Jr., of 1 Fellows Road in Oakdale, was charged with criminal attempt to sell heroin, possession of heroin, possession of heroin within 1,500 feet of a school, engaging in a pursuit, attempted assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and reckless driving.

According to Deputy Chief Marshall Segar of the , officers with the Vice and Intelligence Section were conducting a narcotics investigation in the area of the at about 1:11 p.m. on Friday. The officers were looking into a report that a man in a white vehicle was selling heroin in the library's parking lot. Segar said that after officers approached the vehicle, Green locked the door and drove off at high speed, nearly striking one of the officers.

Segar said Green left the lot and went onto Jay Street, and uniformed officers in marked cruisers were called in to assist. The pursuit went along Franklin Street, Home Street, and Manwaring Street before changing to a slow speed pursuit. Green was arrested after driving from Manwaring Street to Williams Street to Huntington Street, where he stopped at a red light. Segar said Green refused orders to exit the vehicle and resisted arrest.

A search of the vehicle found two bags containing about 1.1 grams of heroin, $600 in cash, and two cell phones. Green was released on $10,000 non-surety bond and will make his first court appearance on the charges on Nov. 18.
