Man Accused Of Hitting Woman With Oxygen Tank

Police arrest three in Jay Street dispute

A Tuesday evening altercation at a Jay Street residence led to the arrests of three people, including a man accused of striking a woman with a portable oxygen tank.

Police arrested 47-year-old Joseph Jones of 202 Colman Street on two counts of second-degree assault as well as one count each of third-degree assault and breach of peace. Also arrested were 33-year-old Dawann Hooks of 7 Griswold Street and 50-year-old Alphanso Rattary of 62 Jay Street on charges of breach of peace.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard of the said officers responded to 62 Jay Street at about 10:39 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of an assault. He said officers heard noise from inside the residence and detained several people after entering the building.

Reichard said officers determined that a verbal confrontation between Jones and Rattary escalated to a point where the men began to push each other. He said the men were separated by people in the residence, but that Hooks arrived soon after and accused Jones of hitting 50-year-old Lorie Brown, a resident of 62 Jay Street.

Reichard said Hooks and Jones got into a fight, during which Jones struck Hooks in the head with a portable oxygen tank. Officers and medical personnel treated several people for injuries at the scene, and Hooks was taken to .
