Kitchen Fire Briefly Causes Traffic Disruptions

Firefighters respond to call on Bank Street

A Bank Street kitchen fire briefly caused traffic disruptions downtown but was swiftly extinguished by the .

Battalion Chief Keith Nichols said the midday incident was a small fire that started on a stove at a two-family home at 862 Bank Street and spread to the walls. He said it took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out the fire.

Nichols said portions of Bank Street and Colman Street were closed after hose lines were laid down and the directed traffic around the site.

"It was kind of a traffic nightmare for awhile," he said.

Nichols said the was determining whether residents could stay at the building.
