Fatal Shooting In New London

Police say preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was not random. The 29-year-old victim, who is known to police but whose identity has not yet been released, may have been targeted.

A 29-year-old man was shot and killed in New London last night. New London Police responded to reports of shots fired at 9 p.m. in the area of Connecticut  Avenue and Prest Street.  Upon arrival, police found a 29-year-old male victim lying in the street suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at approximately 11 p.m.

Police at the scene secured a large area, covering approximately two small city blocks, where physical evidence of this incident was located. The Connecticut State Police Major Crimes/Crime Scene Unit was called in to process the crime scene and gather evidence for this incident. 

Preliminary investigation into the incident shows that the victim may have been known to the perpetrator and was targeted; it does not appear to have been a random  incident. 

The victim is known to police, although his identity is not being released at the present time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call detectives from the New London Police Department at 860-447-1481, all calls will remain confidential.
