Dirt Bikes Hot Items For Thieves

Seller Beware: New London Police warn that thieves are responding to online ads for dirt bikes for sale but when the seller shows up, they take the bikes for a test drive and never return.

New London Police are looking into several recent reports of stolen dirt bikes. Police say that during the course of their investigation, they learned that the suspects are scouting for dirt bikes advertised for sale online, then making arrangements to meet the seller in New London. When people arrive at the prearranged location with the motorbikes, the suspects take the bikes for a test ride and, you guessed it, they never come back.

The investigation is ongoing but New London Police made some headway this week. On August 26, police followed a lead that took them to 193 Laurel Drive in New London at 7 p.m., where they recovered a stolen motorcycle from the back yard of the property.

Police made one arrest as a result of the discovery. A 14-year-old male was charged with larceny in the third degree. New London Police say that they expect to make more arrests before the investigation is over.
