Dashawn Revels Sentenced To 55 Years In Murder Case

Brooklyn resident, 22, charged with shooting 20-year-old man in 2009

A 22-year-old Brooklyn, N.Y. resident will spend 55 years behind bars after his conviction in a 2009 murder.

Judge Stuart M. Schimelman sentenced Dashawn Revels to the prison term on Friday at the New London Superior Court. A jury found Revels guilty of the murder of 20-year-old Bryan Davila, who was shot during a dispute outside the Thames River Apartments on Crystal Ave. on March 31, 2009.

During the trial in July of this year, Senior Assistant State's Attorney David Smith presented 80 pieces of evidence. The state witnesses included an apartment resident who said she saw the dispute and shooting take place from her fifth-floor apartment.

Revels denied involvement in the shooting, and during the trial he named two men whom he accused of killing Davila. Revels' attorney said the prosecution left room for reasonable doubt and that they plan to appeal.

More information will be posted when it is available.
