Bank Robbery Suspect Swiftly Apprehended

New London Police Department arrests man accused of robbing Citizens Bank

The New London Police Department apprehended a man accused of trying to rob a Citizens Bank branch, located about a block from the police station, just minutes after the robbery was reported.

Acting Chief Peter Reichard said 35-year-old Jerry Thompson of Hartford was arrested this afternoon after the bank at 63 Eugene O'Neill Drive reported the incident. Reichard said the report came in at 2:10 p.m. and several police personnel responded to the scene. Witnesses described the suspect as a black man with brown sweatpants and a black backpack who fled toward State Street.

Six minutes after the call, officers arrested Thompson without incident at Union Station. He was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries received when a dye pack enclosed with the money exploded.
