Arrest Made In Montauk Ave. Disturbance

Police continue investigation of incident in which 21-year-old may have been assaulted by as many as three people

 

Police arrested a 20-year-old man on Monday and were continuing their investigation into a Montauk Ave. assault in which more people may have been involved.

Luis E. Sanchez, of 93 State Pier Road, was charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, sixth-degree larceny, and interfering with police. He was held on a $75,000 bond.

According to Deputy Chief Marshall Segar of the , officers responded to a report of a disturbance at 65 Montauk Ave. at about 10 p.m. on Monday. They found a 21-year-old man had been assaulted, and the man was taken to for treatment.

Officers also saw a vehicle fleeing the scene and pursued it in an attempt to locate it. They found the car abandoned in a restaurant parking lot on Hamilton Street, and used K9s to search the area. A local fisherman told police he had seen a person in the water at Shaw's Cove before he fled on foot. Amtrak officers later apprehended Sanchez.

Segar said police found discarded drugs at the Montauk Ave. address as well as a wooden dowel which may have been used in the assault. He said witnesses told police up to three people may have been involved in the assault.
