Zak's Apology

By now, the whole world, including the queen of England, has heard about Zak Leavy's unfortunate choice of t-shirts or, at least, it must seem that way to the mayor's recently and frequently maligned executive assistant.

Cheerfully and with no malice aforethought, Zak donned a t-shirt designed by one of his entrepreneurial friends that bore the now infamous words "New London Hates You."

Boy, was that a mistake!

While the photo of Zak didn't exactly go viral, it did, quickly, appear on a number of Facebook pages including mine, Fix New London and Whale Tales.
But, just as quickly, Zak replaced said snapshot as his Facebook profile photo with another more "appropriate" picture.

AND even issued a graciously worded public apology (see below) which, frankly and in my opinion, is a lot more than the citizens of this fine city have gotten from other public figures that are guilty of far more egregious sins against New London residents than Zak and that stupid t-shirt.

Zak may be young as more than a few people have pointed out but what were you and I doing at his age? Not to mention that he, very obviously, learns fast, is willing to correct his mistakes and takes responsibility for his actions.

Maybe it's time for some of our elected officials to take some lessons from Zak.

"This was a mistake and I exercised poor judgment in wearing the shirt," said Leavy. "I hold myself to a higher standard and I apologize to anyone who may have been offended by me wearing the shirt and it will not happen again." From New London Patch
