Dime Bank Becomes First Corporate Sponsor of National Coast Guard Museum
The National Coast Guard Museum Association, Inc is excited to announce that Dime Bank, a state-chartered, mutual bank headquartered in Norwich, Connecticut, has become the first corporate sponsor of the National Coast Guard Museum to be built in New London, Connecticut, donating $15,000 to support the building of this first and only national museum honoring the achievements of US Coast Guard men and women. Established in 1869, Dime Bank offers consumer and commercial banking, home mortgages, and trust services, and through Dime Investment Services (a subsidiary of Dime Bank) – insurance and investments – all delivered with a personal touch. Through this generous donation, Dime Bank will receive a unique limited edition painting of the U.S. Coast Guard Barque EAGLE created on archival paper by famed Coast Guard artist Tony Falcone of Prospect, Connecticut. Entitled “Leading The Way,” this exclusive fine art giclee reproduction was created by Falcone while sailing aboard EAGLE in 2013, and is fully framed, remarqued and signed by the artist; Ready for immediate hanging.
“As the first corporate donor to our museum, Dime Bank is providing invaluable support and leadership, inspiring others to give and get involved in making the dream of a national museum for our heroic coast guard men and women a reality,” said John S. Johnson, Treasurer of the National Coast Guard Museum Association. “We continue to make strides in our efforts to construct Connecticut’s newest national landmark, and Dime Bank is instrumental in our efforts to celebrate the important role the U.S. Coast Guard has played throughout our country’s history.”

The new National Coast Guard Museum will honor the heroism of the men and women who answered the call to always be ready, as in the Coast Guard motto: Semper Paratus. Permanent and revolving multi-media exhibits will tell compelling stories of its past, present and the future as they evoke the Coast Guard’s critical role and mission in maritime security, safety, protection of natural resources, and national defense. As a dynamic institution charged with these roles, the museum will use interactive and modern technology in exhibits to engage the public, veterans and present Coast Guard men and women as they serve our nation now and into the future.
Plans include a four-story 54,000-square-foot building with four floors of interactive exhibits, event space and lecture rooms, as well as a reception area with gift shop and café. In addition, plans anticipate docking the Coast Guard's tall ship, Barque EAGLE, at an adjacent pier serving as an additional attraction. A pedestrian overpass across the railroad tracks will connect the museum with the local ferry terminal and train station helping to usher visitors worldwide as they come to experience this first national museum dedicated to the U.S. Coast Guard's history.
