The Battle for Trophina plus Shoreline Roller Derby Girls of the Week By Christopher Annino

November 24th The Burlesque Bruisers went against the Steam Queens for the Trophina the Shoreline Roller Derby championship. There was an opening bout The Underskated Knockouts went against Hards Capital City Liabilities. The Kockouts won as well as the Burlesque Bruisers making them the current Trophina Champions.

Both GI Jos  (Salty Broads) and Funsize (Belle Donna’s) are rink veterans its always sad when you have to put an end to a good thing. Both girls have been through many wars in the rink but now it’s time to hang up the skates and move on. They retired the last bout of the 2013 season for the Shoreline Roller Derby Championship. Both tremendous athletes and leaders in the rink were given a standing ovation. Every woman out there plays like Cal Ripken Jr they make every game count and they are consecutive with their intensity.

GI Jos says the one she will miss will be “I will miss my teammates.  I will miss having that outlet a few nights a week.  I will miss the whole kit and caboodle.  I will not miss the bruises and injuries though!” she added “I enjoyed the comradely most.  I finally found where all the bad ass women were! I really enjoyed the exercise also.  I liked traveling and meeting other awesome women. I enjoyed just about everything roller derby has to offer.” Several highlights in her career are Greatest winning the  MVP at her last bout as the captain of the returning home team champions.

GI Jo’s end with “When you spend as much time as we do together, trusting one another to hit you effectively or build a wall so tight not even a eyelash can get through the family bond tends to come naturally.  Never mind the love and support of a league full of righteous dames.”

Funsize Fury issued a special release in regards to her retirement “I loved everything about derby. It was something that I could do for me, I saw the sign posted at Galaxy and said I want to do that, people thought I was crazy. I was not the best but it was fun. I will miss skating the most, and seeing all the great friends I have made. I had to stop because of my neck injury, so it was a forced retirement from my Dr. There are so many great moments but I think the best is the little kids asking for your autograph and wanting pictures. It makes you think ya this is cool and people really like us lol. Shoreline has been like a family to me because they are always there. We don’t always get along but you know if hell or high water these ladies will always be there for me. They are my sisters I never had, I will love them forever.”
