L+M Feature Friday -- Elks Donation

As L+M prepares for the grand opening this fall of its new Cancer Center in Waterford, community support is building – and this week’s Feature Friday spotlight shines on the New London Lodge of Elks, which recently made a donation to the project.

The Elks’ contribution, like so many others – large and small – from businesses and individuals, goes into the L+M Centennial Capital Campaign, with all funds dedicated to the Cancer Center. The $34.5 million facility off I-95 in Waterford will be run in affiliation with Dana-Farber Community Cancer Care.

Keith J. Robbins, an Elks Club trustee, said supporting the Cancer Center was an easy decision for his organization. “It’s unfortunate to realize that as soon as the Cancer Center is open there will be people waiting for services,” he said. “When we know there’s a need in our community, that’s what we do – the Elks try to help. The Elks national motto is ‘Elks care, Elks share.’”

William A. Stanley, VP of Development and Community Relations at L+M, thanked Elks Lodge members earlier this week by giving a tour of the new center. Stanley noted, however, that the Capital Campaign is just now entering its public phase.

“This is really the time for our community to step up to support this incredible effort to bring world-class cancer care to southeastern Connecticut,” he said.
