Alzheimer's Expert to Speak at L+M May 10
Alzheimer’s Expert David Troxel to Speak at L+M New London, CT ~ There are 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, and every 68 seconds another American develops the disease. By 2050, a new occurrence will happen every 33 seconds. These sobering statistics and how best to care for those with the disease will be discussed by an internationally recognized expert in a free public lecture – Life Transitions: Approaches to Alzheimer’s Care – to be held at noon on May 10 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. David Troxel, MPH, a leading author and trailblazer in Alzheimer’s care, will share his insights and recommendations at L+M’s Baker Auditorium, located just inside the hospital’s main entrance at 365 Montauk Avenue. “As family members, caregivers and professionals,” Troxel says, “we have to try to connect with individuals who have Alzheimer’s. People with this disease in some way need someone to be attentive and empathetic – someone who really tries to walk a mile in their shoes.” Troxel has co-authored five influential books (most notably, The Best Friends Approach to Alzheimer’s Care) on Alzheimer’s care and numerous articles relating to dementia care and staff development and training. He is also a past Executive Board member of the American Public Health Association and past member of the National Alzheimer’s Association Ethics Advisory Board. Troxel’s appearance at L+M is the fifth in an ongoing lecture series sponsored by the Lawrence Society, a group of philanthropists who help sustain the future excellence of L+M by including the hospital in their estate planning. The lecture is free, but seating is limited. Attendees are asked to RSVP before May 6 by calling 860.442.0711, ext. 3163 or via email at development@lmhosp.org. # # #
