NLCCC Urges Residents To Recognize National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

The New London Community & Campus Coalition is advising residents to take advantage of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday.

The Drug Enforcement Agency is holding collections across the country this weekend to safely dispose of unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Although New London does not have a special event for this day, the NLCCC says residents can bring prescription drugs to a drop box at the New London Police Department lobby.

The NLCCC and NLPD established the drop box last year as a way to securely dispose of prescription drugs. Police will take the drugs to an incinerator for disposal once they are collected.

The drop box is meant to collect prescription drugs only and should not be used for materials such as liquids, syringes, or aerosol inhalers. Residents should also not dispose of prescription drugs by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away in traditional trash receptacles.
