Community Corner

9/11 Weekend of Service

The New London Homeless Hospitality Center is hosting a 9/11
Weekend of Service this year. On Saturday, September 10th from
8am-6pm volunteers will have the opportunity to learn the process of jarring
fruits and vegetables to donate to our Veteran’s House, overnight shelter, and
other sites of need in our community. Groups of 8-9 volunteers will work in 2
hour shifts throughout the event until all of the produce has been jarred.
Thanks to the generous support of the Community Meal Center in New London, we
will be using their space for this event.  On Sunday, September 11th  at 1:00 pm at 51 Mountain Ave in New
London, we will be dedicating a Community Garden planted by the Eastern
Connecticut Community Garden Association to all those who lost their lives on
September 11, 2001. We will also be honoring the veterans that we house, as
well as those in our community who have served and continue to serve our
country. All volunteers are invited to attend the dedication and participate in
the ceremony, as well as give a hand in the upkeep and maintenance of the
garden.
