Dominion Gives Grants To New London Schools For Environmental Education Programs

Through its Foundation, Dominion is awarding K-12 educational grants to schools and educational institutions throughout its footprint for the 2013-2014 academic years.

In Connecticut, educational grants of $30,000 will be awarded to four schools. The schools are located in Groton, New London and Bridgeport. A breakfast will be held on September 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Ella T. Grasso Technical High School in Groton to distribute the awards.

“We encourage projects that invoke critical thinking and relevant learning,” said Thomas F. Farrell II, Dominion Resources’ chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Our nation’s students must be prepared to meet the challenges ahead, particularly in the fields of science and energy.”

Connecticut grant recipients are:

• Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School in Groton, Conn., will use $10,000 to convert a gasoline-powered car to run initially on a battery and then on a fuel cell.
• Kolbe Cathedral High School in Bridgeport will use $5,000 to support the Restore and Improve Urban Infrastructure program
• Interdistrict School for Arts and Communications (ISSAC) in New London will use $10,000 for Human Influence on the Environment
• Connecticut Science Center in Hartford will use $5,000 to support the Bennie Dover Middle School Environmental Education program in New London
