WHALING WIVES COMING TO FORT TRUMBULL STATE PARK AND THE GIFT STORE


                     On June 26, 2014, The Friends of Fort Trumbull S.P. will present Karlee Turner, portraying a whaling captain’s wife.

  As the CHARLES W. MORGAN- the only surviving wooden whaling ship- prepares to again set sail, after a four-year renovation at Mystic Seaport, Karlee Turner, a role-player at the Seaport, will bring to life what is must have been like for the five wives who called the Morgan their “home at sea” during its eighty years traversing the seven seas in search of whales.

In conjunction with that presentation, Pam Benson, the Director of the Fort Trumbull Gift Store, has created two very eye-catching displays on Whaling Wives.   In addition, she has collected many books on the topics of Whaling and Whaling Wives.  The books that are available in the Gift Store are:

Before her retirement, Pam spent most of her career teaching the gifted and talented program at the middle school level.  She also taught theatre as an enrichment program.  Drawn to the gift shop because of its creative element and marketing challenge, she saw it as an enjoyable way to meet people while providing vital income for the Friends of Fort Trumbull

 

The Friends of Fort Trumbull gift shop is filled with souvenirs, mementos, and gifts for both children and adults.

You’ll find we have something for everyone: handcrafted toys, a wide selection of new and used books, artwork, clothing, note

cards, gift items, our famous “White Elephant Corner” and more.

 

The shop, which is staffed by volunteers from the Friends of Fort Trumbull, is open from Noon to 4:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and on days when the Fort hosts a special event.
