Story Pirates in Norwich, CT March 28 & 29 2014

NYC's Story Pirates will perform a brand new family friendly sketch comedy show created from stories generated in a series of writing/improv classes at Artreach in Norwich, CT. Story Pirates are teaching the classes in February and March. The class participants are members of Artreach, Inc., a non-profit mental health and arts agency in Norwich, CT. Artreach is the home of The Second Step Players, a stigma-busting comedy troupe of actors who have experienced psychiatric disorders. Artreach supports sustainable recovery by using creativity to heal.

ABOUT THE GUEST ARTISTS: Story Pirates is a nationally respected education and media organization founded in 2003 to celebrate the words and ideas of young people.

Story Pirates pair world-class teachers with first-rate actors and comedians, offering a variety of tools to make learning more engaging and effective. Dually based in New York and Los Angeles, Story Pirates is best known for the Idea Storm Program, a master-class writing workshop that brings teaching concepts to life, followed by a musical sketch comedy show featuring stories by students and performed by professional artists. Their acclaimed programs and professional development services for teachers are in place at over 250 schools from coast to coast.

This collaborative project between Artreach, Inc's The Second Step Players and The Story Pirates, is made possible by support from the Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Artreach also receives support from the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
