Panel Discussion: "Reservoirs & Recreation - Developing Trails on Reservoir Lands"

There will be a panel discussion on the topic "Reservoirs
and Recreation: the Challenges and Opportunities in Developing Public Trails on
Reservoir Lands"
. The forum will take place on Monday, October 7th,
2013 at 7 PM in the Groton Senior Center on Route 117 in Groton, CT.

The Tri Town Trail Association has organized this forum in order
to educate the public on this issue and to generate on-going discussion. TTTA
is overseeing the development of the Tri Town Trail, a 14 mile trail running
from Bluff Point in Groton to Preston Community Park. One of the proposed
routes for the trail would take it through reservoir property owned by Groton
Utilities.

Panelists for the forum, which is free and open to the public, are
as follows: Laurie Giannotti is the Trails and Greenways Coordinator for the
Connecticut DEEP. She is responsible for the Recreational Trails Grants and is
involved with planning trails throughout the State.
Eric Hammerling is the Executive Director of the Connecticut
Forest & Park Association. His organization oversees many recreational
trails in the State. He recently led the movement for stronger legislation to
limit the liability of reservoir owners.
Lori Mathieu heads the Connecticut Department of Public Health
Drinking Water Section. In her role as Section Chief she is responsible for
source water protection and regulates the quality of the States public drinking
water.
Paul Yatcko is the Director at Groton Utilities. He will outline
some of the real challenges and difficulties associated with trails on
reservoir property.
