Janus Trio In Concert !

Chamber Music @ Christ Church presents: the Janus Trio!
Sunday, May 18th at 3:00 pm,
Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St, Norwich CT.

Janus Trio's Theory of Colours program will be performed interpreting works of Ravel, Treuting, Matalon, Saariaho & Debussy.

When Claude Debussy composed the Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, his inspiration was the notion of blending the timbre of one instrument that was plucked, with one instrument that was bowed, with one instrument that was blown. The resulting Sonata brilliantly unifies three starkly different instruments and exemplifies Debussy at the apex of his compositional strength. Complementing Debussy’s Sonata, Maurice Ravel’s Sonatine en Trio is a multi-movement work that is at once sonorous, brilliant, and decidedly French. Martin Matalon and Kaija Saariaho both looked to Debussy as a point of departure for their dynamic and energetic compositions, but they move in decidedly different directions, bringing the listener into unique and complex soundscapes. Jason Treuting creates a literal interpretation of Debussy’s timbral inspiration in Pluck, Bow, Blow – a three-movement work interspersed throughout the program that showcases each member of the trio, both deconstructing and elucidating each gesture.
