Visions and Plans: New London in 2013 and Beyond

A New London Landmarks forum from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, will explore exciting new possibilities for city development projects from Fort Trumbull to Hodges Square to downtown.

The forum, “Visions and Plans: New London in 2013 and Beyond,” will feature a roster of speakers, including architects and designers, at the Fort Trumbull Conference Center, 90 Walbach Street.

Much has been claiming attention in New London: the contested budget, the fate of the city’s firefighters and public workers, and critical concerns about the school system.

But the city must still progress for optimal development that is sensitive to its key assets; which is why many people and businesses have worked to acquire grants that will assist in complex development studies. They are also seeking funding for specific development plans – imagining 21st century solutions to 19th century problems, as well as purchasing historic buildings and quietly planning change.

It’s change needed to keep pace with the increasingly vibrant, young residents attracted to the city’s historic ambiance, walkable downtown, and its thriving arts scene situated halfway between New York and Boston.
