Expressiones is excited to begin our 2013 season with an incredible exhibit by Alonsa Guevara, a young Chilean Artist. This exhibit represents the vision of a new generation of artists and new art trends.
Born in Rancaua, Chile, Guevara is a young artist, a lover of light, colors, and shapes. Her paintings move between the worlds of the fantastical and believable, always full of details and brightness, that reflect her obsession with realism and mimesis. Using advertising codes and alluding to mythological characters, she focuses her work in the different female archetypes.
She has participated in more than 30 individual and group art exhibits in Chile, Argentina and the United States. Presently she is enrolled in a Master of Fine Arts Program at the New York Academy of Art.
Alonsa is currently working with the stereotypes that mark women's lives. Using images of elite models she shows the fragility of their bodies by having their human flesh replaced with paper. It is a way of criticizing the dissemination of the unnatural female created by magazines and breaking down women’s obsession with stereotypes of beauty imposed by society.
