Charlie King has been at the heart of American folk music for half a century.  His songs have been sung by Pete Seeger, Holly Near, Ronnie Gilbert, John McCutcheon, Arlo Guthrie, Peggy Seeger, Chad Mitchell and Judy Small.  His political musical influences are the folk music revival of the 1960s and the protest songs of the Civil Rights and Vietnam War era.

Karen Brandow has been performing with Charlie King since 1998.  While doing human rights work in Guatemala for eight years from 1986-1994, Karen studied voice, performance and classical guitar.  She broadened her repertoire to include Latin American music of the New Song Movement.  She performs in English and Spanish.

In addition to full-time concert touring, King and Brandow have sung for numerous groups in support peace, human rights, economic justice and environmental sustainability.  Their albums include: SO FAR, SO GOOD, THE DISTANCE REMAINING, HIGHER GROUND, ON THE JOURNEY, SPARKS & TEARS, PUPPET TOWN, REMEMBERING SACCO & VANZETTI, and I STRUCK GOLD.

Geoff Kaufman rich tenor voice and exuberant love of singing have helped audiences find truth, humor, and beauty in folk music for close to three decades. He sings songs of the sea, of the earth, of the heart and the spirit. He weaves together ancient ballads with songs of love, and poignant songs of people in struggle with humorous glimpses of human foibles. His audiences sing along in the choruses, sharing the exhilaration.

A reviewer describes her concert experience:

‘Then Geoff gets two pairs of “sticks” from his pocket. “Rib bones gain an interesting quality as the marrow dries out,” he says, showing them. “They have a more hollow sound.” Other instruments included a guitar, a concertina and a small flute. Some of his songs were incredibly beautiful, like the one about the Island of Mingulay that Geoff Kaufman introduced with: “the rhythm is fabulous for rowing.” All of the songs had stories to them.  - Lisa Hazen, “Frogmom”  http://frogmom.com/

"…we are stunned by the beauty of your music."   - a fan in Corpus Christi, TX

The concert begins at 7:30 on Friday, January 17 in Unity Hall at All Souls, 19 Jay Street in New London. Doors open 7 p.m. Tickets are available for advance purchase at fridaynightfolk.org.
