LOCAL “MYSTERY MEN” COMING TO EAST LYME-CHILD & FAMILY AUXILIARY

SEPTEMBER 28, 2013-DON’T MISS THIS EVENT

The back packs have been purchased, the new shoes and first day clothes have been chosen, and the heat wave has broken. Now, it is time to pamper yourself. As fall arrives, mystery buffs and book lovers of all types will be heading to the second Celebrity Author Luncheon sponsored by the East Lyme Child and Family Auxiliary on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the Community Center in East Lyme from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

As its first speaker, the Auxiliary is delighted to welcome James Benn of Hadlyme, who is the author of the Billy Boyle World War II Mystery Series.  Crimespree Magazine has said, “The Billy Boyle books are among a small group that goes right to the top of the reading pile.”  In 2006, the first in the series, Billy Boyle: a World War II Mystery, was selected by Book Sense as one of the top five mysteries of the year.  It was also nominated for a Dilys Award. Benn, a graduate of the University of Connecticut, worked in the library and information technology fields for over thirty-five years.  In 2011, he “quit the day job routine to write full-time.” He lives in Hadlyme, Connecticut with his wife Deborah Mandel.

The second celebrity who will speak is David Handler, a resident of Old Lyme, who is the critically acclaimed author of several bestselling mystery series. In addition to many other works, he has written eight novels featuring the crime-fighting duo of New York film critic Mitch Berger and Connecticut State trooper Desiree Mitry.  Publishers Weekly has reported, “Handler’s blend of suspenseful plot, skillful telling, and occasional splashes of comic relief add up to a heady cocktail of prime crime.”

Tickets can be purchased at Smith’s Acres, Niantic, Tri Town Foods, East Lyme, and Bank Square Books, Mystic. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. For more information or to make reservations for a party of six or more, call 860-460-2304 or email celebrityauthors@comcast.net.
