After 10 Years In Afghanistan, People React To The Longest Active War In U.S. History

October 2011 is the tenth year the United States and coalition military forces have been in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. The conflict in Afghanistan alone has cost 1,765 service members their lives, according to the Washington Post and the fiscally, the United States is on track to spend more than $118 billion dollars this year, according to the Congressional Research Service reported by the New York Times.

People interviewed said the distant and complex conflict is not worth it's high cost and that the federal government should redirect resources toward domestic improvements. But, a recent Pew Research Center report indicates that 96 percent of post Iraq-era veterans are proud of their military service.
