City Issues Parking Ban

Residents Asked to Park on Even Side of Street

Parking restrictions have been put into place today and tomorrow.

An operator at the New London Police Department said on-street parking is limited to the side of the street with even address numbers. In addition, on-street parking has been barred for downtown and narrow streets. The rules are in effect to to allow snowplows to clear the roads and should be lifted once the storm passes on Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued both a blizzard warning and coastal flood watch for New London. The blizzard warning runs through 6 p.m. on Monday and predicts snow accumulation of 11 to 16 inches. The prediction says the snow will be the heaviest this afternoon and taper off Monday morning, but that strong winds will continue. The service discourages travel during the storm, saying conditions may include poor visibility and drifting snow.

The coastal flood watch is in effect through tonight and anticipates that conditions leading to minor to moderate flooding on the coast may develop.

The snow removal policy of the Public Works Department asks residents to delay the removal of snow from sidewalks and driveways until the storm has passed and the department has completed their final sanding of the roads. The department also says snow should not be removed into the street at any time.

The policy says sand is available for free to residents' personal use at , , the parking lot, the former Edgerton School on Cedar Grove Ave., the rear lot of the , the corner of Bayonet and Colman Streets, and Crescent and Roseway Streets.
