Restrictions put in place for anticipated winter storm

The parking ban which went into effect at midnight has been lifted, but may be reinstated this evening depending on weather conditions

The National Weather Service forecast continues to call for windy conditions today with periods of snow, leading to a daytime accumulation of about an inch. Steadier snow is expected overnight with a transition to rain on Friday. The forecast predicts a total snowfall accumulation of three to six inches during the storm.

A parking ban has been announced for New London due to anticipated wintry conditions, effective at midnight.

The ban prohibits parking on downtown streets or narrow streets, and residents should using on-street parking elsewhere should park on the side of the street with the even address numbers. On streets where parking is only allowed on one side, residents should follow posted regulations.

Parking bans will be in effect until the completion of snow plowing operations. The New London Police Department will ticket and tow vehicles in violation of the ban. Free parking is available at the Water Street Parking Garage for the duration of the ban.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, gusty winds and a mix of snow and rain are expected to start on Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday and Friday. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the area, with an anticipated snow accumulation of three to seven inches by Friday.
