The city of New London is sponsoring a leukemia benefit poker run this weekend, and will be one of the stops visited by boaters.
Registration for the will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Pier as well as Harbor Hill Marina in Niantic. The poker run itself will run from noon to 4 p.m., with an after-party at Harbor Hill Marina from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Last year, the event raised $20,400 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which supports research into blood cancers including leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma.
Boaters will not race during the event, but rather will visit different points to pick up playing cards. Prizes will be awarded at the after-party to the boaters who have the best three poker hands. People without boats may also participate in the event.
Participants may register in person on the day of the event or in advance by visiting the event's website or calling 203-427-2071. Advance registration ends on Friday.
