For the 15th year, will host the New London site for the Travelers Walk MS event.
Walkers in the event may check in beginning at 8 a.m. on April 10 at the Clarke Auditorium. The walk itself starts at 9 a.m. New London is one of 11 communities across the state participating in the walk on April 3 and 10. Participants may choose either a two-mile or five-mile route, and the event will take place rain or shine.
The National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter hosts the event in order to raise funds for research into treatments and cures for multiple sclerosis. The organization hopes to raise over $1.4 million, beating last year’s record-breaking total of over $1.3 million.
Participants are eligible for different prizes, starting with a free T-shirt when $100 is raised. The routes include rest stops, and a lunch is provided at the end of the event. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and dogs are welcome.
Last year, the New London walk attracted over 400 people and raised about $65,000, including $2,574 from Pfizer, $4,195 from family team Mickey Mouse Milers, and $18,999 from Chris Getman. This year, organizers hope that New London can raise $68,000. According to the event’s website, the New London event had raised $5,420 as of Friday.
