Wheeler’s Multidimensional Family Therapy Program Expands to Waterford and Surrounding Cities and Towns

Wheeler’s Multidimensional Family Therapy program (MDFT), funded by the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch, Court Support Services Division (CSSD), has expanded to serve Waterford and surrounding towns. The program, based at 464 Ocean Avenue, New London, is staffed by a team of four clinicians, a case manager and program supervisor and will serve 50 families annually.

“We look forward to building collaborative relationships and implementing this program to meet the needs of this community,” said Kim Nelson, LCSW, vice president, Children’s Outpatient and Community-based Services, Wheeler Clinic.

Wheeler’s MDFT program is an evidence-based, family-driven drug abuse recovery program for youth dealing with substance abuse issues, oppositional behaviors and family conflict. It is recognized as one of the most promising interventions for adolescent substance abuse and includes home-based services for the youth, caretaker and family.  Wheeler staff work with families in the home, school and community, examining all components of a teen’s life to promote positive, long-term change.
