Verizon Wireless Deploys XLTE, Doubles Network Capacity throughout Many New England Markets

Verizon Wireless has deployed its newest network technology – known as XLTE – in markets throughout New England, boosting 4G LTE network capacity and enhancing high-speed services for customers. Nationwide, more than half of Verizon's 500-plus 4G LTE markets have been enhanced with XLTE, with more scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

New England markets where customers with compatible devices can take advantage of XLTE’s added capacity and faster peak speeds include:

  • Connecticut: Greater Fairfield and New Haven, Hartford, New London County
  • Massachusetts: Boston, Hyannis-Mid-Cape, Pittsfield, Springfield, Worcester-Fitchburg
  • New Hampshire: Manchester-Nashua
  • Rhode Island: Greater Providence

XLTE utilizes Verizon's AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) spectrum, which allows Verizon to deliver significantly increased capacity – at a minimum, doubling the capacity – over its high-speed 4G LTE network. This means more customers can access the company's most advanced technology at the same time to send photos, download videos, surf the Internet and use other popular applications on their smartphones, tablets and other devices during times of peak usage.

“New Englanders truly live a mobile lifestyle – whether it’s posting status updates, surfing the web, or checking email while on-the-go,” commented Michael Murphy, spokesperson for Verizon Wireless New England. “Our customers have long recognized that regardless of their device or favorite apps, a great mobile experience starts with a strong network. The deployment of XLTE in New England further enhances our customers’ experience today, and provides a more robust foundation to support the innovative devices and services of tomorrow.”

XLTE technology is particularly effective in enhancing wireless network performance in settings such as densely-populated areas, rush hours, concert venues, sports arenas/stadiums and other large event locations.
