There’s a little bit of autumn in ’s choices for the upcoming week’s events. Glenn Dreyer, director of the Arboretum, leads a fall foliage tour of the park starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday. It leaves you time to check out the at the , running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the same day. And it might have less to do with pumpkins and apples, but it’s still a sign of the season: the Neighborhood Alliance and the League of Women Voters of Southeastern Connecticut are holding a “Meet The Candidates” forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the . This time around, the six candidates for mayor will be answering questions.
It’s a good week for music as well. On Friday, gives an 8 p.m. Friday Night Folk performance at the ; tickets are $23 at the door, $20 in advance, and $10 for students. Connecticut College students pay $10 to $14 for a performace by at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Palmer Auditorium; it’s $18 to $25 for seniors and $20 to $28 for general admission. That show is competing with the ’s although a pre-show lecture starts at 7 p.m.; this show at the , and tickets are $27 to $54.
In the art world, is holding a free youth workshop from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday on recycling materials into art. There aren’t any openings this week, but as always the galleries have several exhibits for you to check out. These include “Fall Into Maritime Art” at and “In Memoriam” at .
Finally, there are a few attractions out there for the history buffs. Chris Soto leads a discussion on salsa music and dance and their associated culture and history; this starts at 6 p.m. on Friday at Expressiones. Sally Ryan continues her lecture series on New London history. Anyone interested should register with the , then show up there for the two-hour talk at either 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, the continues to display an exhibit on the history of whaling near the Azores and its connection with the United States’ role in the trade.
