Incredible amounts of music! Just about every upcoming event picked for recognition by comes from the category that brings you some sweet tunes. We’ll get to them all, but first we’ll address the event coming up on Thursday: the El Sol poetry open mic. This regular event kicks off at 8 p.m. at and runs for two hours.
It’s perhaps no surprise that music is the kingpin this week, what with the 2012 Whalie Awards on Saturday. This third annual event at highlights local bands and includes a number of live performances; it all starts at 6 p.m. You can get an early start on Friday with a 10 p.m. “pre-Whalie celebration” at celebrating Daphne Martin’s birthday; admission is $5, and the party is open to those 21 and over. As for the after-party, you can catch Riki Rocksteady at the at 6:30 p.m. (21+ with an $8 cover) and The Thor Jensen Group with DJ Sir Round Sound at 10 p.m. at .

The other performances are all centered on Friday evening. At 6 p.m., Terrence Simien and the Zydeco Experience visits the Hygienic Art Park. has a live jazz guitar performance starting at 8 p.m., while DJ Frank Lo starts spinning at at 9 p.m. Finally, Darik and the Funbags visits the at 10 p.m.
