VIDEO: New London Fall Food Stroll

New London Main Street fundraiser brings visitors downtown to check out restaurants and businesses

An autumn tradition continued in downtown New London on Wednesday as visitors sampled a number of different restaurants.

The event, a fundraiser put on by New London Main Street, included samples of everything from entrees to desserts from restaurants around town. Local businesses offered discounts or hosted some food vendors, and local musicians played on the sidewalk.

Lyric Cafe, which has been closed pending a switch to new ownership, reopened its doors to greet patrons. Natalya Brown, the new owner who expects to open the restaurant with her husband James in about two weeks, said she was glad for the chance to give a preview of the business.

"We have a great and wonderful chef," said Brown. "The food is great, and we're hoping that we're going to create a very nice and cozy atmosphere here."

Kim Pettey, owner of Pinc! Boutique, brought in apple spice cupcakes with caramel frosting from You Take The Cake.

"We love Food Stroll, because I get a lot of customers this way," said Pettey. "They come back, so it's a good chance for people to come to stores downtown they wouldn't normally come to."

This event is one of the best nights to be in NL! What a great opportunity for local businesses to open their doors and let the public see what they have to offer. It was festive, fun and people of all ages were there. My fave restaurants of the night were the Commoner who served lobster topped potato skins and Mambo with their killer mojitos and spicy seafood chowder! Also, the music was great - there was the coolest reception on the top floor of Captain's Pizza with an awesome Irish band, then the Rivergods were in front of the Crocker House. I love this event!! If you didn't go, don't miss this event - too good to pass up! Thank you so much to all the volunteers that make this happen :-)
