Steve Kaika Benefits, New London Art Night, and Juneteenth

A benefit for Steve Kaika, bassist and vocalist for the band The Reducers, will still take place on Friday at to raise money for Kaika’s family to help with his medical bills; a $10 donation is suggested. Other benefits for Kaika's family will perform on the same evening at the at 9:30 p.m. as well as the and at 10 p.m.; these shows have a $5 cover.

In other music this week, Pat Doddona and The Meadows Brothers will play from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at on Friday. At 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Paul Brockett Roadshow and The Throttles play at 33 Golden; the cover for this 21+ show is $5.

Saturday marks the return of New London Art Night, as galleries and museums open their doors from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. continues to celebrate its 33rd year with the exhibit “Fixed Views: Black and White Images of Nature” by photographer Frank Kaczmarek. The opens an exhibit honoring veterans and returning soldiers. The also continues its children’s movie series by showing Mary Poppins at 2:30 p.m.; the showing is free with museum admission.

A couple of community events are set for the weekend. The celebrates from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the . Activities include games, a flash mob, and a performance by . Writer’s Block is putting on shows from Friday through Sunday. Call the organization for performance information and to arrange admission, which is $10 or $8 for groups of five or more.

Finally, you can also check out a duo of literary events. ’s regular poetry open mic invites authors to share their work from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday. holds a “Books to Movie” night at 5 p.m. on Monday with a free showing of Zathura.
