New London Landmarks Workshop On City Improvement Taking Place Wednesday

Residents invited to share ideas for neighborhood revitalization

New London Landmarks will hold another "Beyond the Bridges" workshop this week as part of its continuing effort to revitalize neighborhoods around New London.

The organization is hosting a workshop from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Polish American Veterans Club at 51 Central Ave. All residents are invited to share their ideas.

The first part of the workshop will discuss revitalization of the Hodges Square neighborhood and the establishment of a governance board to continue the effort and discuss new business ideas. Art Costa, president of Thames Valley Sustainable Connections, will lead this part of the workshop.

The second part of the evening will discuss landscaping to make neighborhoods more attractive. Brian Kent, a landscape architect with Kent and Frost Landscape Architects, will lead this discussion.

This is silly....blah blah blah. Landmarks telling an old neighborhood what is good for them. There is little or no money to help so this will be just anouther fluffy waste of time. At the end of the day, there will still be 3 or 4 gas stations and 3 or 4 restaurants.

I wonder if the workshop facilitators are being paid for their work.

Landscaping? That's a great idea! How about someone gets L&M to landscape that ugly parking lot they put behind my house! I'm sick of looking at it. Once there was a lovely green hill that blended in with the woodlands and made my backyard (and many other backyards) a lovely little haven in the middle of the city. Now we're all staring at as asphalt football field. Gee, I wonder what that did to my property values? It sure put a damper on my 'quiet enjoyment' of my yard!
