Where to find the cheapest gas in the region

The Washington Post reports that gasoline prices took a temporary break in their climb this week for an interesting reason: discounting what remains of "winter gas" to make way for gasoline used in the summer; this latter type is more expensive to produce due to the addition of anti-smog additives. Oil prices continued to go up on factors such as the Iranian situation and a report of 227,000 jobs added to the American economy. A poll by Time suggests mosts Americans won't start changing their driving habits until a gallon of fuel costs $5.

According to ConnecticutGasPrices.com, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline retreated three cents to $3.97 this week while the national average rose two cents to $3.74. The cheapest reported price in the Nutmeg State was $3.77, available at Johnson's Gas in Torrington and Costco in Enfield.

Here in New London, the lowest price was $3.95 as of Friday evening. This was shared by the , , and on Williams Street as well as the on Montauk Ave. on Broad Street has $3.97 gasoline for cash payments.

Groton also has $3.95 as its lowest price, available at the Citgo on Gold Star Highway. This is followed by $3.97 at the Hess on Route 12 and $3.98 at the Gulf on Mitchell Street. Waterford has the cheapest options in the immediate area, with $3.90 available at BJ's on Cross Road, $3.92 at the Mobil on Boston Post Road, and $3.95 at the Stop N Shop on Boston Post Road.
