Feng Shui, Comedy Of Errors, and The Lobster Players

This Week in New London, Aug. 10-16

Summer is slowly on its way out, but there’s still a lot to do in New London. On the events highlighted by this week, there are a few options tonight for mid-week entertainment. Marc Mastrandrea continues his , starting at 7 p.m. at Suite 415 of 165 State Street, for a fee of $10. That gets out at 8 p.m., in time for you to check out either the regular at or a showing of High Fidelity at the as part of their summer movie series. At 9 p.m., Sean Nelson and Friends play some jazz at the Carousel Club at 33 Golden Street.

If you’re looking to be active, the holds a tango party on Thursday at 7 p.m., with a walk-in cost of $15. For the kids, there’s a sock hop going on from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at . on that day. On Friday, holds an anusara-inspired yoga class; the cost is $16 to drop in. Bike New London takes advantage of (somewhat) cooler temperatures with a full moon ride, meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday outside ; its free, but proper equipment such as lights are required. Finally, you can always catch the free tour of the Arboretum at 2 p.m. on Sunday; these head out from outside the Olin Science Center.

Theater only has a couple of appearances today, but it makes up for it in terms of length. First up is ’s production of Shakespeare’s at the , starting Thursday and continuing every day through Sunday. You can reserve a spot in a pre-show dinner on Thursday by calling 860-443-3786. The show itself is free and starts at 7 p.m. A preview of this show can be seen starting at noon Friday on the Parade Plaza during the . Then on Monday, the Lobster Players return for their second year of 24-hour theater, a series of plays put together over the course of a single day. This runs from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Hygienic Art Park.

In arts and crafts, holds an earring design and making workshop starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday; the $48 fee covers all materials. brings in Dana T. Duellman at 6 p.m. on Thursday to tell you about Feng Shui and how to best arrange your home; the cost is $35. Roger Riley leads a digital photography workshop at the Shain Library at Connecticut College, with a $34 cost for the general public; third runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Victoria Pavlov is giving free 15-minute photo sessions starting at noon on Saturday at her 300 State Street studio; an appointment is required and can be arranged by calling 860-577-8055. Ongoing exhibits around town include the four artist “Quiet Riot” collaborative at Hygienic Art, the John Stobart Fellowship Award winners reunion at , the “Uncanny” photography show at Spirit Gallery, and the “Face Off” portrait gallery at the .
