Connecticut Gas Prices Rising Faster Than National Average

Connecticut's gas prices remain well above the national average. Prices are rising faster in Connecticut.

A month ago, gas prices in Connecticut seemed to be bottoming out at $3.64 a gallon. The latest average price according to Connecticut Gas Prices is $3.82, up from $3.74 a week ago.

Nationally, the average is $3.50, up from $3.46 a week ago.

“Gasoline prices continue to rise across much of the nation, which is precisely what we had forecast earlier this year, so it does not come as much of a shock,” said Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, the parent company of Conn. Gas Prices.

He added in a statement, “Either way, I don’t expect the national average to break out of its mid-$3 a gallon rut until mid-to-late September, then we may get some action to the downside.”

According to the Washington Post, gas prices have climbed an average of 11 cents since the beginning of the month. The Post says renewed tensions with Iran and concerns that the country may try to block oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have contributed to increasing prices.
