The American Farmland Trust is inviting people to pledge a certain commitment to their local farmers market, with special recognition to the top markets.
The "I Love My Farmers Market Celebration" will run until Sept. 9. The goal of the effort is to raise awareness of farmers markets and support local farmers, and hopes to get at least $1 million in pledges.
Participants pledge to spend at least $10 at their farmers market, and may pledge once a day to as many farmers markets as they support.
Pledges may be made at lovemyfarmersmarket.org. At the end of the effort, the top 100 markets will receive a special logo honoring the support, "No Farms, No Food" merchandise, and recognition on the I Love My Farmers Market Celebration website.
The Field of Greens Farmers Market, which runs in three locations in New London, is included on the site.
