Shoreline Roller Derby Girls of the Week Blocker: Erin 2E & Jammer Shocka Swan By Christopher Tank Annino

The rink gladiators of Shoreline Roller Derby Shocka Swan and Erin 2E are both very gifted athletes who by day are complete opposites of what they appear when they strap on the skates. They battle human walls and demigods on skates every time they skate out on that rink.

Shocka Swan is a Sunday school teacher, a wife, a mother, and a very well mannered person outside of the rink. Swan who has a very small frame does not only have quickness of foot but she has a high pain tolerance. “When I strap on my skates I just wanna go out there and hurt people, I get an adrenaline rush when hitting someone in the rink” said Swan. Although she is a fast skater Swan uses her body as a human wrecking ball as she bounces off roller derby titans twice her size. Swan is known for her ricocheting off of blockers while somehow remaining balanced “when I first began this I was some what overweight but thanks to the encouragement and the support from both my family and roller derby family I managed to lose 50 lbs. Roller derby has helped built my confidence up. Its very addictive and like classic ECW wrestling it has a dedicated following” said Swan. Before getting a double knee replacement because of a roller derby related injury she was named MVP for best Jammer when she went against the Worcester Word.

Blocker, Erin 2E who has a past athletic background as a NCAA level cheerleader and is a four year veteran in roller derby, she also proudly serves our country in the armed forces. “My best moment in roller derby is when you see the rookies succeed. Watching them improve on their game because of information you passed down to them gives you a sense of accomplishment. This sport is a rough sport and you will get injured and hit. When I go out there I look forward to getting hit for that adrenaline rush” said 2E.
