Viewfinder - New London Arts Night

The first "Arts Night" of the season was slow due to less than desirable weather, but NL galleries keep high hopes look to the future for better.

The first monthly New London Arts Night was a learning experience for many of New London’s galleries opening their doors from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday The intention was to get New Londoners out and about on Friday night roaming between the different galleries in the historic waterfront district.

It turned into a rainy night and the turnout was overall fair. The consensus among gallery owners and managers alike was that more advertising and better luck with weather will make the event more of a success.

Although the cold and rainy weather kept many potential art walkers indoors for this inaugural First Friday event it has done little to discourage the spirits of the participating galleries. “This one didn’t go as well as we hoped because of the weather but May’s art walk will be awesome,” says Allen Glidden of the Pigeon Hole. “The first one was for us [the galleries] to learn…now we know what we need to do…the next one will be far more successful,” says Nadesha Mijoba of Provenance Cultural Center.
